![What is the value of a closet makeover? Is it just to be posh? Or to occupy yourself with a project? The beauty and pride that brings? To be fancy, or fun? For us this closet makeover was motivated by health and functionality. Located just off the master bathroom, with holes in the wall, no space for a door, and carpet on the floor, this closet has become a dust and mold nightmare, that could have continued to get worse had the humidity from the bathroom and holes in the closet walls caused mold to grow inside the walls. It had to be fixed. So we replaced the Closet Made shelves with more sturdy floating wood shelves that don’t have any nooks and crannies for dust to accumulate; patched and painted the walls to stop humidity from getting into the interior of the walls; and replaced the carpet with waterproof LVP. Fixing the functional issues gave us the opportunity to also improve the space planning, add organization, and create an aesthetic that is truly enjoyable! And guess what we found? It also added fun, fancy, and beauty that we can be proud of, making it now a delightful space to get ready in the morning!
What we didn’t do: consume the tiny space with bulky built-in custom closet shelf framing, expend money on wallpaper that in this small space would be almost 100% covered up, or put the door back on (which can only open into the closet) taking up valuable space and blocking access to half of it. [Due to pipes etc in the wall and towel bars on the other side neither a barn door or pocket door would work either. Exchanging the space was also not an option with how the adjoining rooms are configured on this second story.] Sometimes the traditional “luxury” features are not the right fit, and a simpler solution can give you the needed upgrade and aesthetic appeal, creating an system and atmosphere that improves your daily enjoyment and use of the space!
